Finland 2026 Symposium on Microgrids

LUT University will host the 20th celebratory edition of the annual Symposium on Microgrids, which will be held on 15-18 June 2026, in Lappeenranta and Tampere, Finland.
The purpose of the symposium is to provide a venue to exchange information on the current state of research, testing, and deployment of microgrids worldwide, and to identify key technical, economic, and policy issues that should be addressed by future work. Our goal for the Finland 2026 Symposium on Microgrids is to continue this exchange, with an emphasis on recent results, and areas of potential international cooperation.
Recent natural disasters have highlighted the need to develop an integrated systems approach to manage infrastructure assets. More and more, systems integration is being deployed to enhance resiliency and address the needs of diverse communities. Energy supply and access are also major priorities for economic development, community life, environmental quality, and social wellbeing. At the same time, in selected regions, microgrids can help stabilizing the grid via support services. The symposium will focus on advances on these topics, but also on networking and capacity building.
As before, each subcommittee region invites eminent speakers to present their work. Special interactive sessions on today’s hottest topics will also be organized. The symposium also includes a social program to ensure attendees capture local culture and make the most out of their travels.
The format of the Finland 2026 Symposium on Microgrids will be similar to prior ones. Attendance is by invitation only, and attendees, including speakers, will be responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses. The organizers took the responsibility to host the main symposium without any registration fee. The Symposium will be held from Monday to Thursday, 15 – 18 June 2026. There will be one day of social programmes – 15 June – and two full days of technical sessions – 16-17 June, in Lappeenranta, and one day of technical visits – 18 June, in the Tampere region. On 18 June, attendees will be dropped off at Helsinki airport by 5pm, so to facilitate their travels back home.
